Six injured, one seriously, in car and bus collision in La Matanza

Six people were injured — one seriously and two moderately — in a collision between a car and a bus on the morning of Tuesday, 28 July 2026 on the TF-217 road, at kilometre marker 3, in the municipality of La Matanza de Acentejo in northern Tenerife.

According to information released by the Centro Coordinador de Emergencias y Seguridad (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Gobierno de Canarias, the alert was received at 09:46, when several calls reported the collision and that a number of people required medical assistance at the scene. The 112 emergency services were immediately deployed.

Assessment of those injured

Based on the assessment provided by the Servicio de Urgencias Canario (SUC), the most seriously injured person is a 43-year-old man who, at the time of initial treatment, had sustained a severe head trauma. He was transferred by advanced life support ambulance to the Hospital Universitario de Canarias (HUC).

Two women sustained moderate injuries. One of them, aged 49, had suffered trauma to a lower limb and was taken by basic life support ambulance to the Hospital Universitario Hospiten Bellevue. The other, aged 52, with moderate injuries, was referred to the Hospital San Juan de Dios.

The full count included three people with minor injuries: a 67-year-old woman, transferred by medical transport ambulance to the Hospital Universitario Hospiten Bellevue; a 56-year-old man with minor back injuries, evacuated by basic life support ambulance to the Hospital San Juan de Dios; and a 55-year-old woman, also with minor back injuries, who was treated at the scene and did not require hospital transfer.

Resources deployed

CECOES 112 activated a paramedic ambulance, a medical transport ambulance and a basic life support ambulance from the Servicio de Urgencias Canario. The Policía Local, the Guardia Civil and the Servicio de Conservación de Carreteras were also mobilised.

SUC staff assessed and treated those involved before transferring them to various hospitals. Police officers assisted the emergency services and opened the corresponding investigation to determine the cause of the collision. Road maintenance personnel carried out clean-up work on the carriageway.

According to information published by the Diario de Avisos, the public transport vehicle involved was a TITSA bus, although this identification does not appear in the statement issued by CECOES 112. The newspaper eldiario.es noted that Hospiten Bellevue is located in Puerto de la Cruz.

Discrepancies in transfer figures

Sources agree on the total number of people affected — six — and on the assessment of their injuries. Regarding the number of people transferred to hospital, the newspaper El Día reported that five of the six required transfer, which is consistent with the detail in the official statement, according to which only the 55-year-old woman did not need to be evacuated.

On the type of ambulance used to transfer the most seriously injured person, the CECOES 112 statement and several media outlets agree that an advanced life support ambulance was used. The newspaper eldiario.es described it as a medicalised SUC ambulance.

This incident should not be confused with other accidents recorded on the same road or involving public transport vehicles on different dates, such as a collision that occurred on 24 January 2026 on the TF-217, also in La Matanza de Acentejo, which left four people injured, according to information from the Gobierno de Canarias portal itself.
