Motorcyclist, 62, dies after leaving the road on the TF-1 in Adeje

A 62-year-old man died on Saturday 25 July 2026 after his motorcycle left the road on the TF-1 motorway at kilometre 78, northbound, in the municipality of Adeje in the south of Tenerife. The information was released by the Canary Islands Government's emergency coordination centre, CECOES 112, and subsequently reported by the Gobierno de Canarias news portal and several local outlets.

What happened

According to CECOES 112, its operations room received an alert at 14:23 reporting that a motorcycle had left the road and that its rider was in cardiac arrest. CECOES immediately activated the necessary emergency resources.

With remote guidance from the Canary Islands Emergency Medical Service (SUC), an off-duty firefighter who was at the scene began basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation before the medical units arrived. Once on site, SUC personnel continued with advanced resuscitation techniques on the victim, who had suffered multiple traumatic injuries, but were unable to reverse his condition and confirmed his death at the scene.

Resources deployed

CECOES 112 dispatched one advanced life support ambulance and one basic life support ambulance from the SUC, along with Guardia Civil officers and Servicio de Carreteras personnel. The Guardia Civil managed traffic on that stretch of the TF-1 and opened the corresponding proceedings to establish the cause of the crash. Road service personnel marked the incident site and cleared the carriageway.

According to the CECOES 112 statement cited by Canarias7, the death was confirmed at around 14:30. Diario de Avisos reported that traffic backed up in the northbound direction and attributed the road-marking and clean-up work to operatives from the Cabildo de Tenerife's Servicio de Carreteras.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Guardia Civil; no conclusions have been released by any of the sources consulted.

Road fatality context on the TF-1

The TF-1, or Autopista del Sur, is a 103-kilometre motorway running from Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Santiago del Teide, passing through most of the island's municipalities, including Adeje.

The incident is the latest in a series of fatal motorcycle crashes recorded in Tenerife in the preceding months, according to information published by CECOES 112 and local media. On 19 July 2026, a 56-year-old man died following a collision between a car and a motorcycle on Avenida Antonio Domínguez in the municipality of Arona, according to a CECOES statement dated 20 July and reporting by Diario de Avisos.

Earlier, on 18 June 2026, a motorcyclist died after leaving the road on the TF-1 at kilometre 22, southbound, in the municipal district of Güímar — an incident in which the SUC deployed a medical helicopter. On 9 May 2026, a 47-year-old man was killed when he came off his motorcycle on the Carretera del Amparo in Icod de los Vinos. And on 8 February 2025, a motorcyclist died following a collision between a car and a motorcycle on the TF-24 road at La Victoria de Acentejo.

In all of these cases, according to official information, medical teams carried out resuscitation efforts without success.
