Man dies after being rescued from hotel pool in Esquinzo (Pájara)

A man died on Saturday 11 July after being pulled from the pool of a hotel in the Esquinzo area of the municipality of Pájara (Fuerteventura) in cardiac arrest. The Centro Coordinador de Emergencias y Seguridad (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Gobierno de Canarias confirmed the incident, as reported by the Gobierno de Canarias news portal and various local outlets.

How the alert was raised

According to CECOES 1-1-2, the operations room received the alert at around 13:00. The call reported that the hotel pool's lifeguard had pulled a man from the water showing signs of drowning and in cardiac arrest. The 1-1-2 immediately activated emergency resources.

A coordinating nurse from the Servicio de Urgencias Canario (SUC), present in the operations room, provided remote guidance to the lifeguard, instructing him to begin resuscitation and use a defibrillator, which delivered one shock.

Medical response

SUC personnel travelled to the scene and continued performing advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Despite their efforts, resuscitation was unsuccessful and the man's death was confirmed. The SUC's assessment records him as "male, deceased".

According to the CECOES 1-1-2 statement, Bomberos de Pájara, the Policía Local and the Guardia Civil were also activated alongside the SUC. The firefighters managed ground safety and take-off procedures for the medicalized helicopter, while the Policía Local assisted the other emergency services.
