Man, 25, dies after being pulled from the sea at Güímar

A 25-year-old man died after being rescued from the sea at Punta Prieta, in the Tenerife municipality of Güímar, according to the Centro Coordinador de Emergencias y Seguridad (CECOES) 112 of the Gobierno de Canarias.

The incident occurred on 9 July 2026 at 20:27, when the 112 emergency centre received an alert reporting that beachgoers had pulled a man from the water who required urgent assistance. Upon receiving the call, the coordination centre immediately deployed emergency resources.

Resuscitation attempts

According to the official 112 account, the beachgoers who carried out the rescue immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Those efforts were continued by personnel from the Consorcio de Bomberos de Tenerife until staff from the Servicio de Urgencias Canario (SUC) arrived on scene.

The medical team performed advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but was unable to save the man and could only confirm his death. The SUC's assessment recorded that the deceased was a 25-year-old man.

Resources deployed

CECOES 112 mobilised the Servicio de Urgencias Canario, which sent a advanced life support ambulance and a standard medical ambulance to the scene. Personnel from the Consorcio de Bomberos de Tenerife and officers from the Guardia Civil also attended; the latter took charge of the relevant judicial proceedings.

Some outlets, including Libertad Digital, reported that the competent judicial authority would carry out the usual formalities for the subsequent transfer and post-mortem examination of the body, although this detail does not appear in the 112 statement published on the Gobierno de Canarias news portal.

Circumstances of the incident

The 112 centre provided no information about the specific circumstances in which the man got into difficulty in the water. In an earlier report, Diario de Avisos — citing Televisión Canaria as its source — stated that the man had been pulled from the water already in cardiorespiratory arrest, and that at that point his identity, age and origin had not been established. Those details were later confirmed by the SUC assessment, which put his age at 25.

Punta Prieta is a bathing area on the Güímar coastline. Emergency services routinely stress the importance of exercising extreme caution at sea, observing warning signs, and calling 112 in any emergency at beaches or coastal areas.
