Four arrested over Las Terrazas jewellery store raid in Telde with loot worth more than 120,000 euros

The Specialised and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) of the Local Judicial Police Brigade at Telde police station has solved the violent robbery carried out on 2 June at a jewellery store in the Las Terrazas shopping centre in Gran Canaria. The investigation, which remains open, has so far resulted in four arrests and the full identification of all suspected participants, according to the Policía Nacional.

How the raid unfolded

According to the investigation, a group of six individuals entered the premises and, using violence and intimidation against those present, made off with a large number of jewellery pieces valued at more than 120,000 euros before fleeing the scene.

Investigators acknowledge it was a "complex" case. To reconstruct the sequence of events, they carried out an exhaustive analysis of footage from CCTV systems at various establishments, conducted on-site forensic inspections and took witness statements. That work allowed them to identify both the suspected perpetrators and other individuals believed to have been involved in the planning and preparation of the raid.

Those arrested and their legal situation

The operation has so far resulted in the arrest of four people for their alleged direct or logistical involvement in the robbery. After being brought before the courts, one of those arrested was remanded in custody, while the remaining detainees — whose involvement is believed to relate to the preparatory phase of the robbery — were released subject to precautionary measures.

There is a discrepancy between published accounts regarding the number of those released. According to reports by Europa Press and eldiario.es, after one was remanded in custody, "the other detainees" were released on bail, without specifying a figure. La Provincia and COPE, however, state explicitly that "the other three detainees" were released on provisional bail.

In addition to the four people arrested, the Policía Nacional attributes the offence to two other men who are currently in prison for their alleged involvement in other robberies of a similar nature committed after the Telde raid.

Number of identified suspects

Sources also differ on the total number of people implicated. Most outlets — eldiario.es, Europa Press and La Provincia — refer to six alleged participants. Canarias7, however, puts the number of identified individuals at seven: six direct perpetrators and a seventh person who did not take part in the raid itself but is alleged to have assisted in the planning and preparation phase.

The Policía Nacional has kept the case open and is continuing efforts to locate and arrest another suspected participant whose identity, investigators say, has already been fully established.

According to information gathered by Telde Ojeando, the investigation is reported to have established links between this raid and other violent robberies carried out at various locations across Gran Canaria, including a subsequent attack at the El Mirador shopping centre.

At the time of publication, there is no indication that any of the stolen goods have been recovered, and no further details about the identities of those arrested have been released.
