Driver dies after crashing into central reservation on the GC-1 in Santa Lucía

A man has died from injuries sustained in a traffic accident that occurred on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, on the southbound GC-1 motorway near the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Gran Canaria, according to information released by the Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 112.

At 16:27, CECOES 112 received a call reporting that a car had left the road and collided with the central reservation. Emergency resources were immediately deployed.

Firefighters made the vehicle safe and freed the driver, who had been trapped inside the passenger compartment following the impact. Personnel from the Servicio de Urgencias Canario (SUC) then assessed and treated the injured man.

According to the SUC's initial assessment, the victim presented with multiple serious traumatic injuries. Once stabilised, he was evacuated by advanced life support ambulance to Hospital Universitario Insular de Gran Canaria, where he was admitted in a critical condition.

Diario de Avisos also reported the driver's death from his injuries.
